Lead Nurse for Acute Medical Unit

Bradford, Bradford, United Kingdom Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a Band 6 Lead Nurse position within our Acute Medical Unit (AMU). We are seeking a passionate, highly skilled, and motivated individual to become a vital part of our dedicated AMU team, which operates a 20-bed facility.

Our unit is responsible for receiving direct admissions from the Emergency Department, managing a diverse array of medical conditions. We benefit from a robust Multi-Disciplinary Team that supports safe and efficient patient discharges.

The pace of patient flow is dynamic, with frequent discharges and admissions to specialty wards. The average length of stay in the unit is typically less than 48 hours, resulting in a constantly evolving caseload. The role encompasses the coordination and effective management of patient transitions in and out of the AMU.

The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership and motivational skills, coupled with a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. You will play a crucial role in ensuring a positive patient experience while mentoring junior staff and contributing to the overall management of the ward.

You will have the opportunity to cultivate your unique leadership style and participate in external training programs focused on clinical skills and leadership development.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure the coordination and direct provision of high-quality, patient-centered care through comprehensive nursing assessments.

- Mentor and guide others in developing essential skills, providing leadership in the absence of senior staff.

- Employ various techniques to establish and monitor clinical practice standards, including auditing, research, and teaching, to enhance care quality and patient satisfaction.

- Act as a mentor to nursing students and junior staff, both registered and unregistered.

- Drive and facilitate positive changes within the unit.

About Us

Our People Charter outlines the expected behaviors among our team members and what you can anticipate from Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust:

  • We value our people
  • We operate as one cohesive team
  • We prioritize care

We are eager to connect with individuals who share these values and are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to our patients.

Job Responsibilities

Given the dynamic nature of our unit, the successful candidate will encounter a wide range of acute emergency patients, offering numerous opportunities to enhance their clinical skills. Our approach to care necessitates close collaboration with all members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure effective and safe patient care.

As our Trust continually strives for improvement, you will be involved in innovative service developments with the team to maintain high standards of patient care and experience. You will collaborate closely with the Ward Manager, Matron, and current Band 6 Lead Nurses to help shape the future of our ward.

We encourage prospective candidates to arrange an informal visit to our unit, and we are happy to address any inquiries you may have.
