Position Overview

The role of the Project Manager within the Child Maintenance Service (CMS) is pivotal in ensuring that separated families receive the financial support they are entitled to. The CMS is dedicated to facilitating financial agreements between parents, particularly in situations where private arrangements are not feasible. Our goal is to ensure that financial support reaches children, positively impacting their lives.

The Project Manager will be responsible for leading and managing various projects aligned with the CMS Modernisation agenda. This includes overseeing projects related to broader departmental changes, ensuring that the CMS remains at the forefront of delivering effective support to families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee project management processes, ensuring adherence to established governance frameworks.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges, implementing effective risk management strategies to mitigate issues.
  • Engage with stakeholders to develop comprehensive communication plans that facilitate project transparency.
  • Assemble and lead project teams, incorporating specialized expertise as necessary.
  • Plan, develop, and implement project requirements, ensuring thorough documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assess and manage project impacts to align objectives with business needs.
  • Monitor project progress, providing updates through the existing governance structure.
  • Stay informed about other departmental initiatives to inform contingency planning.
  • Coordinate with various business areas and suppliers to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Effectively implement changes within CMS Operations to enhance service delivery.
  • Ensure all project outputs comply with the Department's Change Lifecycle requirements.
  • Develop communication strategies to keep all relevant business areas informed and engaged.
  • Provide guidance and support to project and program support colleagues throughout the project lifecycle.

Some travel may be required to key departmental sites in the future.

Candidate Profile

To be successful in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:

  • Relevant qualifications such as PRINCE2 Practitioner or APM Practitioner, along with substantial experience in managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines while effectively prioritizing tasks based on stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience with governance and risk management frameworks, including engagement with high-level governance forums.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of translating strategic plans into actionable tasks.
  • Inclusive leadership skills, with a track record of building high-performing teams across diverse organizations.
  • Analytical skills that facilitate persuasive decision-making.
  • A commitment to enhancing service delivery and achieving value for taxpayers.
