Position Overview
We are seeking applications for the position of a Junior Cardiothoracic Surgical Care Associate within the Thoracic division at our esteemed healthcare institution. This role is integral to our team, which is recognized for delivering advanced medical interventions in the field of heart and lung care.
Contract Details
This is a 6-month fixed-term contract aimed at providing maternity cover. Please note that due to the nature of this contract, enrollment for the MSc in Surgical Care Practice will not be supported. However, comprehensive in-house training will be provided to facilitate the acquisition of essential skills and competencies in Thoracic Surgery.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Lead Surgical Care Practitioner and Consultant Surgeon, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Assist in performing specific invasive procedures within cardiothoracic operating rooms, utilizing specialized knowledge and skills.
- Act as a primary or secondary assistant to Cardiac Surgeons, engaging in pre-operative and post-operative care for patients, with a focus on patient assessment, wound management, and infection prevention.
- Develop advanced surgical techniques and contribute to the education of junior medical personnel and future Surgical Care Practitioners.

Clinical Duties
The role includes, but is not limited to:
- Participating in pre-operative assessments and assisting in patient preparation for surgical procedures.
- Performing various surgical tasks, including skin preparation, incision, and suturing, while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Monitoring patients' vital signs and assisting in maintaining a sterile environment during surgical operations.
- Engaging in post-operative evaluations, focusing on wound care and identifying potential complications.
