Position Overview
We are currently in a transformative phase for our cardiothoracic surgical pre-assessment unit, having recently implemented our Enhanced Recovery After Cardiac Surgery (ERACS) pathway, alongside Day of Surgery Admission and a pioneering prehabilitation initiative for surgical patients. To facilitate this progress, we seek a seasoned nurse practitioner with advanced clinical skills, ideally possessing experience in a comparable environment. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the development of our services both now and in the future.
Barts Health NHS Trust, a leading healthcare provider, is committed to delivering exceptional cardiac and cancer care. Our facilities are equipped with cutting-edge technology, enabling us to provide comprehensive treatment options for a variety of medical conditions.
Our surgical team performs a diverse range of cardiac and thoracic procedures, catering to patients from various regions, including those requiring intricate aortovascular and congenital interventions. We have also recently initiated robotic cardiac surgery, complementing our established thoracic robotic surgery program.
We pride ourselves on being a dedicated, supportive, and ambitious team that values professional growth. We actively promote nurse and allied health professional-led research and provide pathways for clinical academic development.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will take the lead in delivering pre-operative care for both cardiac and thoracic surgical patients. Responsibilities include facilitating effective communication among clinical teams and serving as a primary contact for patients and their families.
As an integral member of the surgical team, the post holder will utilize the integrated care pathway (ICP) and associated protocols to guide decision-making processes, ensuring safe surgical preparation and enhancing patient care quality.
The role requires functioning as an autonomous practitioner, delivering expert care, conducting advanced patient assessments, and initiating necessary treatments and investigations.
