CRA GROUP LIMITED is seeking a dedicated Payroll and Pensions Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll and pension administration for our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive support for the maintenance of online payroll systems, offering guidance, training, and assistance to employees, managers, unions, external clients, and HR staff.
  • Prepare and submit statutory returns, documents, and forms, including sensitive information to relevant agencies such as HMRC, Merseyside Pensions Fund, and Teachers Pension Agency. Ensure all returns are accurate, balanced, and compliant with legislation and data protection principles.
  • Compile financial information for third-party organizations, ensuring adherence to council financial regulations, legislation, and external body requirements.
  • Maintain accurate pension membership records in collaboration with transactional HR staff, utilizing the Merseyside Local Government Pension Fund system. Administer the Council's Retirement and Severance scheme, providing calculated pension estimates and costings as required.
  • Calculate, process, and reconcile payrolls for both internal and external clients, strictly adhering to all relevant legislation.
  • Contribute to the delivery of Auto Enrolment by providing operational guidance to employees and HR staff.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of legislation governing deductions from pay.
  • Review pension adjustments made via the payroll system, arising from contractual changes such as strike action, opt-outs, and maternity leave. Audit the starter/leaver process conducted by transactional HR staff and, in consultation with senior members of the section, advise on corrective actions when necessary.
  • Assist in developing colleagues within the section.
  • Utilize available databases and report writing tools to generate required information related to both payroll and pensions.
  • Undertake duties related to the calculation and deduction of PAYE and National Insurance, ensuring timely communication with HMRC and implementation of procedures.
  • Process both incoming and outgoing invoices for the Corporate Payroll section, utilizing the Council's manual and electronic systems.
  • Manage the Teachers Enhanced Pension scheme and process payments arising from the death of a beneficiary.
  • Process salary sacrifice/deductions schemes.
