Position Overview

Healthcare Assistant - Discharge Lounge and Winter Escalation Ward - Band 2 - Permanent

We are pleased to present an opportunity to join our dedicated team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust within the Discharge Lounge and Winter Escalation Ward. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about providing compassionate care in a supportive environment.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting qualified nursing and medical personnel by executing assigned responsibilities that involve direct patient care, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical staff.

Key Responsibilities

The individual will operate under the direct oversight of registered healthcare professionals, assisting the healthcare team in delivering personal care to a designated group of patients while performing a variety of clinical tasks. It is essential that all actions are conducted following appropriate training and within the individual's scope of competence.

Core Duties Include:

  • Delivering high-quality, compassionate personal care to patients and their families.
  • Collaborating with Registered Healthcare Professionals and senior colleagues, both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensuring a high standard of service delivery within the ward/department by practicing effective clinical and administrative preparation.
  • Engaging in compassionate care, prioritizing patient needs, and developing competencies that safeguard practice.
  • Maintaining a professional demeanor and demonstrating excellent customer service skills.
  • Building positive relationships with patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, relatives, and healthcare practitioners.
  • Assisting in the preparation of patients for meals and monitoring dietary intake.
  • Supporting patients with mobility needs and ensuring their comfort.
  • Participating in infection prevention and control measures.
  • Assisting in the care of patients' skin integrity and reporting any concerns to the Registered Healthcare Professional.
  • Providing support to patients with cognitive impairments and promoting their active involvement in care.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Essential:

  • Good general education with literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Willingness to undertake the National Care Certificate training program.
  • Experience in caring for patients.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Working towards or prepared to pursue an Apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Capacity to adapt and prioritize tasks based on patient needs.
  • Initiative and a commitment to high standards of patient care.
