In alignment with the principles of 'Getting it Right for Every Child', the appointed individual will conduct evaluations of needs and risks, collaborating with partner organizations to ensure the effective execution of care and protection strategies.

The role encompasses statutory duties concerning children and young individuals who are in care or have been accommodated within the social care framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of needs and risks, leading the development and implementation of plans to provide care, protection, and support to children, young people, and their families, while promoting their well-being within the community.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations to enhance the capabilities of service users.
  • Evaluate child protection referrals, perform investigations, and provide recommendations in accordance with child protection protocols.
  • Assess and advise on the necessity of compulsory supervision measures.
  • Evaluate and recommend accommodations for children requiring alternative living arrangements.
  • Provide insights for children who may need permanent family care solutions.
  • Contribute to reviews of children's needs, making recommendations to relevant panels and hearings.
  • Plan rehabilitation strategies and offer support to children with care experience, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • A degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification recognized by the SSSC.
  • Knowledge of child-care legislation and policies.
  • Relevant experience in the field.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
  • Capacity to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Competence in conducting risk assessments.
  • Ability to analyze information and formulate recommendations.
  • Capability to resolve issues independently when necessary.
  • Understanding of referral processes for complex issues.
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of vulnerable children and families.
  • Registration with the SSSC is required.

Desirable:

  • Experience in child protection.
  • Direct experience working with children and families.
  • Experience in rural community settings.
  • Post-qualifying certification in Child Protection or a willingness to pursue this in the future.

Note:

This position may be suitable for candidates who have recently completed their Social Work Degree but have not yet graduated. In such cases, a Social Work Assistant contract will be offered until the qualifying certificate is obtained and eligibility for SSSC registration as a Social Worker is achieved.
