Position Overview

In alignment with the principles of 'Getting it Right for Every Child', the appointed individual will conduct evaluations of needs and risks, collaborating with partner organizations to ensure the execution of care and protection strategies.

The role involves fulfilling statutory obligations concerning children and young individuals who are looked after and accommodated within the care framework.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting evaluations of needs and risks, taking a lead role in the execution of plans aimed at delivering care, protection, and support to children, young individuals, and their families, while promoting their wellbeing within the community.
  • Collaborating with partner organizations to enhance the capabilities of service users.
  • Making assessments related to child protection referrals, executing investigations, and providing recommendations concerning child protection protocols.
  • Evaluating and recommending whether compulsory supervision measures are necessary.
  • Assessing and advising on the need for a child to be placed away from their home.
  • Evaluating and recommending options for children who may require permanent alternative family care.
  • Contributing to reviews of the needs of children and young individuals, including making recommendations on behalf of the Council to relevant panels and hearings.
  • Planning rehabilitation efforts and providing support to care-experienced children, while preparing written reports and maintaining necessary records.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • A degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification recognized by the SSSC.
  • Familiarity with child-care legislation and policies.
  • Relevant and transferable experience.
  • Ability to engage in collaborative work across various disciplines.
  • Capacity to operate within professional boundaries.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member.
  • Competence in conducting risk assessments.
  • Skill in analyzing information and formulating recommendations.
  • Capability to resolve issues independently.
  • Understanding of when to escalate issues to the appropriate authority.
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of vulnerable children and families.
  • Registration with the SSSC.

A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle are required for this position, as travel to various locations is necessary.

Desirable:

  • Experience in child protection.
  • Direct experience working with children and families.
  • Background in rural community work.
  • Post-qualifying certification in Child Protection or a willingness to pursue this in the future.

Candidate Profile

This position may be suitable for individuals who have recently completed their Social Work Degree but have not yet graduated. In such cases, a Social Work Assistant contract will be offered until the qualifying certificate is obtained and eligibility for SSSC registration as a Social Worker is achieved.
