About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Social Work Practitioner to join our Family Support Team within the Safeguarding Outcomes Service at Bath and North East Somerset Council.

As a Senior Social Work Practitioner, you will play a key role in providing high-quality social care services to children, young people, and families in the Bath and North East Somerset area. You will work closely with our colleagues across the service and have established partnerships with agencies across health, education, support services, and adult services to ensure we can respond as effectively as possible to the needs of children, young people, and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of children and families with complex needs, including those subject to Child in Need Plans, Child Protection Plans, Children in Care, and children subject to legal proceedings.
  • Undertake single assessments and section 47 child protection investigations.
  • Develop and implement outcome-focused plans for children and families, working closely with our colleagues and partners to ensure the best possible outcomes.
  • Provide supervision and support to Family Support Practitioners, as well as access to Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS) training to support student social workers or mentoring roles for newly qualified social workers.
  • Contribute to service development and improvement, working closely with our leadership team to drive forward care plans and legal work to protect children and promote children's outcomes through permanency.
Requirements
  • A relevant social work qualification.
  • Significant social work experience, including experience in safeguarding and child protection.
  • Knowledge of the legislative framework that governs children's services.
  • Knowledge of theory and practice applicable to social work.
  • IT skills to enable operation of standard electronic systems.
