Position:
Laboratory Support Specialist

£50 per hour
Working Hours: 8:15 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday, during academic terms (approximately 32 weeks annually)

As a Laboratory Support Specialist, you will be instrumental in fostering an engaging and secure educational atmosphere for learners.

Your responsibilities will include preparing and arranging equipment and materials for scientific practical sessions while strictly following health and safety protocols.

You will also be tasked with maintaining a well-organized inventory of laboratory apparatus, chemicals, and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and placing orders as necessary.

Regular maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments will be part of your duties to guarantee their proper operation and safety.
You will monitor and uphold health and safety standards within the laboratories, prioritizing the safety of both staff and students.
Assisting in the safe disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with established guidelines will also be required.
Collaborating with the Science Department to enhance and innovate practical resources, experiments, and demonstrations will be essential.
You will support the Science Department in conducting demonstrations and experiments during school events and open days.
To thrive in this position, we are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications and attributes:

- Prior experience in a laboratory environment, ideally within an educational context.
- A genuine interest in science and a foundational understanding of scientific concepts.
- Competence in utilizing basic laboratory tools and familiarity with scientific software and computer applications.
- A proactive and adaptable work ethic, capable of adjusting to shifting priorities and deadlines.
- A relevant qualification in science or laboratory techniques is beneficial but not mandatory.
To be successful as a Laboratory Support Specialist, you will need to:

- Ideally hold a degree in science or possess basic A levels in science
- Undergo an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable), and professional reference checks
- Ensure your CV covers the last 10 years of employment history where feasible
- Have the legal right to work in the UK
