Job Purpose

As a Lead Radio Journalist for Radio Wales News, your primary responsibility will be to craft and deliver our morning and evening news segments. Central to the department, you will be expected to take the initiative in assembling and broadcasting live shows, considering all editorial, legal, and creative aspects involved. Maximizing the potential of the team is essential, whether working with journalists, presenters, reporters, or studio personnel. This is vital for enhancing the audience engagement of our broadcasts and ensuring impactful journalism.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

You will be tasked with: Strategizing for Radio Wales Breakfast and Radio Wales Drive, including regular weekend commitments Executing live broadcasts, which will involve early starts and late finishes Supervising the activities of the journalism team Managing editorial and legal considerations, independently resolving issues as they arise Potentially overseeing a small team of individuals

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

To excel in this position, you will need to showcase: Extensive relevant experience in journalism or live radio production Proven ability to effectively lead small teams, drawing out the best from colleagues, including senior staff such as presenters and correspondents Confident application of BBC editorial standards and media legislation A proactive approach to building productive relationships with contributors, the wider Wales newsroom, other BBC departments, and external stakeholders In-depth knowledge of Wales, its communities, and its political landscape
