About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cost Manager to join our team at Turner & Townsend Group. As a Senior Cost Manager, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality cost management services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage commissions of varying sizes, ensuring effective cost management and timely delivery
  • Coach and mentor junior staff, allocating roles and responsibilities to ensure efficient cost management
  • Advise clients on feasibility studies, procurement options, and cost planning
  • Manage estimating and cost planning stages, presenting final cost plans to clients
  • Tender and procure, managing pre-qualification stages, producing tender lists, and compiling contractual documents
  • Conduct contract administration, dealing with post-contract cost variances and change control processes
  • Take personal responsibility for peer reviewing cost allowances and conducting valuations on larger projects
  • Produce monthly post-contract cost reports and present them to clients
  • Negotiate and agree final accounts
  • Interface with clients, project managers, and other consultants at all project stages
  • Collaborate with Turner & Townsend's project management team during project delivery
  • Lead cost management teams, ensuring delivery of all accountabilities
  • Utilize bespoke digital cost management tools and services
  • Implement Embodied Carbon Calculator, a carbon accounting tool, to produce carbon footprint reports
  • Support execution of NewLeaf strategy
  • Manage internal fees, job costing, and resourcing requirements
Marketing and Business Development
  • Identify opportunities to develop new business with existing clients and report to line managers
  • Develop and maintain professional networks of peers and potential clients
  • Lead bid submissions
  • Identify ways to improve cost management procedures, templates, and products
  • Participate in extracurricular activities, including external groups, networking, and CPD events
Internal Management Accountabilities
  • Knowledge management - ensure key information and learning are input into Turner & Townsend's internal database
  • Process improvement - identify ways to improve internal systems and processes and refer ideas to line managers
  • Lead in supporting, developing, and mentoring junior staff members
  • Manage projects on D365
Reporting

Senior Cost Managers will report to Associate Directors, Project Directors, or Directors, depending on the context.

Key Performance Indicators
  • Commissions are managed to the right quality standards and completed efficiently and on time
  • Service delivery on commissions is in line with the conditions of appointment
  • Good relationships are developed with clients and cross-functional team members
  • Effective collaboration with the cost management team
  • Opportunities are identified to develop new business with existing clients
  • Margin levels are tracked on all commissions
  • Key information and data are effectively cascaded and retained
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with the ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and deliver to tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Chartered status
  • A confident and professional manner
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize their workload
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships across the business
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to delegate tasks to junior team members to assist in their technical development
Qualifications
  • Minimum BSc in Quantity Surveying or similar
  • Demonstrable experience delivering cost management services in healthcare or life sciences sectors
  • Full membership or working towards RICS (MRICS), ACostE, or equivalent professional qualification
  • Practical knowledge of NEC forms of contract would be beneficial
