As a Criticality Safety Engineer, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Executing Monte Carlo simulations of neutron transport equations utilizing geometric models of nuclear fuel under diverse conditions and fault scenarios;
  • Evaluating proposed fuel route operations to identify potential hazards and faults that may present criticality risks;
  • Analyzing faults to assess risks and recommend appropriate safety measures in accordance with the ALARP principle;
  • Developing criticality safety cases that meet quality and procedural standards, integrating them into the station safety case;
  • Reviewing other safety cases to evaluate their impact on criticality safety and providing necessary advice;
  • Offering guidance to station personnel in response to on-site events and evolving circumstances;
  • Collaborating with station staff and other technical teams to discuss training, operational experiences, and work requirements;
  • Maintaining essential codes (verification & validation, version control, etc.) and managing tasks within a UNIX environment;
  • Clearly defining tasks for others, partnering with supply chain associates, and acting as an Intelligent Customer for externally produced work;
  • Assisting the Group Leader in managing strategy, risk, work planning, resources, and budgets as appropriate.

Candidate Profile:

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A robust background in science or mathematics;
  • A strong desire to learn and grow professionally;
  • Self-motivation, initiative, and sound judgment to drive projects to timely completion;

  • Experience with Monte Carlo computer modeling codes and techniques (e.g., MONK, MCNP, SERPENT, etc.);
  • Knowledge of the legislative requirements within the Nuclear Industry, particularly regarding safety case development;
  • Understanding of AGR or PWR operations from a Nuclear Safety Group or Operations perspective.
