Position Purpose
Facilitating access to appropriate learning opportunities is essential for learner success. As a leader at Medr, you will oversee the performance of our educational providers. By staying informed on policy priorities and budget considerations, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that providers meet established targets and deliverables. Collaboration with our quality assurance team will be vital to guarantee exceptional learner experiences.
As a strategic leader and integral member of our executive team, you will champion and navigate change, engage in co-construction with providers, embody our values, and nurture the development of others.
Key Responsibilities

- Stay informed on policy and budgetary constraints to facilitate meaningful discussions when establishing ambitious outcomes for providers.
- Manage provider performance against agreed outcomes, utilizing data and evidence to inform decision-making and identify trends.
- Contribute to evidence-based risk assessments of current providers and assist in developing intervention strategies as needed.
- Build and sustain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Welsh Government and educational providers.
- Represent Medr at a senior level, collaborating with partners to ensure effective investment and oversight of the tertiary education budget.
Challenges Ahead
- Quickly understanding the diverse range of providers and their contractual obligations to effectively ensure compliance with agreed outcomes.
- Balancing stakeholder expectations with governmental priorities and budget limitations while striving for optimal learner outcomes.
- Leading the collaborative development of the 'Tertiary Provision Plan', ensuring it prioritizes learner needs and optimizes available resources.
- Guiding a geographically dispersed team while fostering their professional growth.
Your Team
You will lead a geographically diverse team of approximately nine individuals within the Development, Investment, and Performance Directorate. This team comprises experienced professionals and has some vacancies, making recruitment and team development a key focus.
The team is responsible for monitoring provider performance, balancing provider expectations with policy priorities and budget constraints. They assess contractual compliance, identify effective practices, and share insights with partners.
Collaboration across Medr with policy, quality, data analysis, investment, and monitoring teams is essential to ensure that providers deliver for learners. The team maintains strong relationships with providers and fosters a co-design approach to address challenges collectively.
