Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and experienced individual to lead the operational management of Hospital Operations within Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the Hospital Operations team, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective patient care.

Main Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day operational leadership and management for Hospital Operations, working collaboratively with the Divisional teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient services.

Develop and implement strategies to improve patient flow and discharge processes, ensuring a patient-centered approach that is safe and effective.

Lead the planning and assurance of emergency preparedness, resilience, and response, engaging with key stakeholders to maintain and enhance the emergency preparedness, resilience, and response capability of the Health Board.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Masters degree or equivalent experience at senior management level within the NHS
  • Service Improvement qualification (Silver)
  • Post Graduate qualification in a clinical speciality
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how management decision making is impacted by clinical priorities, risks, etc.
  • Demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of a wide range of national health policy issues and how they translate to NHS Services
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in relation to Information and Information management issues and how they support operational and strategic management of clinical services
  • Previous experience of working within a clinical environment within a clinical post
  • Ability to translate national policy across a range of service areas, into robust and measurable action plans to support delivery of challenging, service, financial, and staff management targets
  • Leading and delivery of highly complex service change
  • Skills and experience in leading on significant service improvement

Desirable Criteria

  • Programme and project management qualifications
  • Breadth of knowledge across all health services from primary to tertiary care
  • Coaching Qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional development. Evidence of professional registration e.g., NMC

  • Evidence of report writing skills, service planning, and presentation skills
  • Ability to demonstrate high-level leadership skill in a highly complex, politically sensitive, and changing environment
  • Skills in analysing highly complex and highly specialised information from various sources
  • Ability to plan strategically in the medium and longer term for change and service improvement
  • Ability to establish partnership working with stakeholders – internal and external to the Health Board
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Excellent presentational and influencing skills to engage clinicians and colleagues
  • Full range of IT skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and effectively manage highly specialised and complex competing demands
  • Demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and political awareness
  • Ability to relate to staff of all disciplines and seniority
  • Ability to work as part of a team but also accepting responsibility and accountability for performance
  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
