The successful candidate will possess advanced skills and expertise to influence and enhance the operational and strategic goals for safeguarding children within the Hywel Dda University Health Board. They will offer safeguarding and professional leadership, ensuring the provision of expert guidance throughout the organization, including primary care settings.

The post holder will collaborate with the corporate UHB Safeguarding Team at both strategic and operational levels, providing robust leadership in partnership with various agencies, reporting directly to the Head of Safeguarding.

Main Responsibilities

The Corporate Safeguarding and Looked After Children teams work in close coordination to ensure comprehensive prevention, identification, assessment, and response to individuals affected by abuse and neglect, as well as domestic and sexual violence within the UHB.

The post holder will oversee the Specialist Safeguarding Children Practitioners and collaborate closely with a diverse range of internal and external statutory and non-statutory organizations. This includes partnerships with Local Authorities, Dyfed Powys Police, and various strategic and delivery groups.

The post holder will be a leading expert in their domain, capable of working independently while maintaining close communication with the Named Doctor and Head of Safeguarding.

They will ensure the implementation of relevant safeguarding and public protection laws and guidelines.

Additionally, they will provide support and guidance to colleagues in the clinical assessment and care of children and young people, adopting a holistic approach to safeguarding and child protection concerns while clarifying individual professional accountability.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Registered professional qualification: Registered Nurse with Specialist Community Public Health (Health Visiting / School Nursing)
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience with current NMC registration
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrated expertise in safeguarding children, adults, and VAWDASV
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for practice
  • Understanding of legal processes related to safeguarding
  • Awareness of current professional issues
  • Comprehensive understanding of the roles of other agencies
  • Familiarity with the functions of Safeguarding Boards

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in safeguarding
  • Teaching qualification
  • Management or leadership qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse and/or in pediatric nursing
  • Experience in a safeguarding role
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Experience contributing to multi-agency safeguarding reviews
  • Experience presenting specialized information to large groups
  • Experience developing and delivering education and training strategies
  • Experience creating clinical guidelines and policies for safeguarding
  • Ability to navigate complex problems and implement effective solutions
  • Experience in formal teaching
  • Experience in effective multi-agency collaboration
  • Experience in report writing and participating in safeguarding meetings
  • Experience working with Safeguarding Boards and partner agencies
  • Experience developing educational materials
  • Evidence of conducting audits and service evaluations
