Position Overview

Are you a seasoned professional in child protection and safeguarding?

We are excited to present a distinctive opportunity for a skilled nurse leader within the Corporate Safeguarding team. Our team is welcoming and supportive, and we are in search of a self-driven and proficient lead practitioner and Named Nurse to guide the organization in fulfilling its legal obligations to protect children from harm and neglect.

The successful candidate will utilize advanced skills and expertise to influence and enhance the operational and strategic objectives for child safeguarding within Hywel Dda University Health Board. They will provide professional leadership in safeguarding and ensure the delivery of expert guidance throughout the entire organization, including primary care settings.

The role involves collaboration with the corporate UHB Safeguarding Team at both strategic and operational levels, offering robust leadership and working in partnership with various agencies, while reporting to the Head of Safeguarding.

We support a flexible working model.

Key Responsibilities

The Corporate Safeguarding and Looked After Children teams collaborate closely to ensure comprehensive prevention, identification, assessment, and response to individuals affected by abuse and neglect, as well as domestic and sexual violence within the organization.

The post holder will oversee the Specialist Safeguarding Children Practitioners and will engage in close cooperation with a variety of internal and external statutory and non-statutory partners. This includes Local Authority collaborators, law enforcement agencies, and regional safeguarding boards.

The successful candidate will be a leading expert in their domain, capable of working independently while maintaining close communication with the Named Doctor and Head of Safeguarding.

They will ensure the application of relevant safeguarding and public protection laws and guidelines.

Additionally, they will provide support and guidance to colleagues in the clinical assessment and care of children and young individuals, adopting a holistic approach to safeguarding concerns while clarifying individual professional accountability.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A registered professional qualification as a Nurse with a focus on Specialist Community Public Health.
  • A Master’s degree or equivalent experience with current NMC registration.

  • Advanced knowledge of safeguarding legislation and its implications for practice.
  • Experience in multi-agency collaboration and safeguarding roles.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is advantageous for this position, and we encourage applications from both English and Welsh speakers.
