Position Overview
This is a fixed-term role until 31/05/2025, designated for maternity cover.
Hywel Dda University Health Board, within the Women and Children Directorate, is seeking dedicated and passionate Registered Nurses (RN/RSCN) to enhance our Acute Paediatric Nursing Service.
Our clinical settings cater to local pediatric needs, featuring:
- 24 inpatient beds for children
- 3 high dependency beds
- An 8-bed Paediatric Ambulatory Care Unit
We also provide specialized services in Oncology Care and Child and Adolescent Mental Health, offering diverse opportunities to develop a wide array of specialized skills through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Support for learning and professional development will be available through our practice educator.
Key Responsibilities
This Band 5 position requires candidates to be RN/RSCN/Child Branch trained, with post-registration experience and the capability to take charge of nursing duties. The successful applicant will be expected to work on a rotational basis, including both day and night shifts.
A compassionate approach is crucial, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective time management is essential.
Welsh language proficiency is preferred; however, applications from both English and Welsh speakers are encouraged.

Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
- Registered Nurse (part 8 or 15 of the register)
- Current NMC Registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Completion of statutory and mandatory training
- Understanding of Health Board Policies and Procedures
- Experience working with acutely or chronically ill children
Desirable:
- Diploma/Degree in Nursing
- Relevant pediatric life support qualifications
- Awareness of clinical governance
