About the Role

The Gambling Commission is seeking a highly skilled Governance Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Governance function, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our decision-making processes are well-managed, effective, and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Good Governance: Collaborate with colleagues to develop and embed good governance policies and processes throughout the organization.
  • Accountability: Manage key policies and processes to drive accountability within the Commission, including managing complaints, conflicts of interest, and supporting internal audits.
  • Decision-Making: Work with the Senior Manager - Governance and Risk Assurance to manage regulatory panels, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and provide procedural advice.
  • Organization: Support decision-making committees and advisory boards at the highest level of the Commission, planning and arranging meetings, developing agendas, and taking high-quality minutes.
  • Discretion: Handle sensitive information with the highest levels of discretion.
  • Development: Focus on your own development and building the knowledge and awareness necessary to support the Commission to achieve its objectives.
Person Specification
  • Expert Leadership: Provide expert leadership on governance processes and requirements.
  • Strong Communication: Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with good awareness of the different needs of senior stakeholders and the wider business.
  • Document Drafting: Ability to draft high-quality documents, including meeting minutes, decision notices, complex and sensitive correspondence, guidance notes, and board papers.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintain attention to detail while working at pace.
  • Problem-Solving: Use judgment and experience to solve problems and overcome obstacles to delivery.
  • Flexibility: Ability to switch between tasks and adjust focus to meet varying demands.
  • IT Skills: Strong IT skills and demonstrable experience with Microsoft Office software.
  • Hybrid Working: Ability to work in a flexible hybrid way, with regular attendance in person in Birmingham.
