Job Title: Assistant Transport Manager

Culina Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Transport Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Transport Operations team, you will be responsible for managing the 24/7 Transport operations, leading the Transport Team, and supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget/forecast expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans and deliver products to customers within agreed service levels.
  2. Reduce non-contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports and daily confirmation of spend.
  3. Ensure all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan the resource.
  4. Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training, and personal development plans.
  5. Ensure all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipment.
  6. Ensure the Transport team complies with all relevant statutes and regulations.
  7. Communicate with 3rd Party hauliers regarding control of all reported defects on drop trailers left for pre-loading.
  8. Check and approve maintenance cost reports and related invoices.
  9. Ensure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time.
  10. Monitor, audit, and control suppliers.
  11. Attend Monthly Customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager.
  12. Support communication throughout the department, including team briefings and publication of KPIs.
  13. Support implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business.
  14. Generate and implement ideas regarding staff and operational changes to drive continuous improvement.
  15. Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business.
  16. Be responsible for the maintenance and fuel aspect of the Transport Budget, including various KPIs and costs.
  17. Support the company in reducing its carbon footprint, for example, reducing road miles.
  18. Ability to deputise for the Transport Manager.
Requirements:
  1. Previous experience of leading, motivating, and managing a team.
  2. Genuine team player, a firm and confident manager who is skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating their team.
  3. Leadership and motivational qualities and proven experience of building a team.
  4. Commercially focused, consumer-oriented, and customer service driven.
  5. Problem-solving in a pressurised environment.
  6. National and International CPC qualification – desirable.
  7. Good commercial knowledge of transport operations, including experience of operating in a closed book, shared user environment.
  8. Previous supervisory experience within an FMCG environment.
