Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a Clinical Ward Leader to oversee operations on our designated Female Acute Ward. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in the daily administration and management of the ward.

The individual in this role will be tasked with supervising the evaluation of care requirements and the formulation, execution, and assessment of care plans for individuals with mental health challenges. Active participation in team meetings is expected, where innovative care methodologies and research initiatives will be discussed and implemented. It is essential to maintain a high standard of the ward environment and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards at all times.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, having demonstrated proficiency as a band 6 nurse, and will be responsible for overseeing the assessment of care needs and the development of care programs for clients requiring mental health support. The successful applicant will exhibit:

  • Exceptional skills in risk assessment,
  • Effective communication abilities, both written and verbal;
  • A compassionate and understanding demeanor, along with a strong commitment and enthusiasm;
  • A high level of motivation and drive.
  • A solid understanding of the Recovery Model approach, considering the needs of families and caregivers, while integrating into a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in Quality Improvement Projects.
  • Active involvement in the training and development of learners within the Mental Health Service, fostering collaboration between the Ward Team and the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team.

Staff Bank Information

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Consultant Practitioner/Clinical Manager to establish care delivery objectives and monitor implementation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and ensure compliance with all mandatory training requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to the Trust's CPA Policy, including risk assessments and pre-planned discharges.
  • Uphold principles of excellent customer care for all stakeholders, including the public, professionals, patients, and colleagues.
  • Act in accordance with professional standards and guidelines.
  • Work closely with the Executive Nurse to enhance nursing practices within the ward.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registration as a Mental Health Nurse (RMN) Part 3
  • Compliance with NMC revalidation requirements

Desirable

  • Registered General Nurse qualification
  • Master’s degree or willingness to pursue further education
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Proven experience in a health or social care setting as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience supervising lower banded staff
  • Managing care for service users with complex needs

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to conduct complex assessments and reviews of care in line with mental health care clusters
  • Knowledge of collaborating with external agencies to support service users
  • Provide clinical leadership to ensure the team meets performance indicators and contractual obligations
