Position Overview
We invite applications for the role of Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to enhance our dedicated team of medical professionals. This position is integral to our department, focusing on delivering exceptional patient care.
Our department is known for its collaborative and dynamic environment, providing a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services. We seek a motivated and skilled consultant who is passionate about patient welfare, eager to mentor junior staff, and adaptable to team needs.
While prior experience in Respiratory Medicine is advantageous, it is not mandatory as comprehensive training will be offered. However, candidates should possess substantial experience in acute medical specialties and ideally hold an MRCP or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
This role offers the chance to engage in specialized training areas, including non-invasive ventilation, sleep disorders, tuberculosis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung oncology, pleural conditions, and cardiopulmonary physiology.
Key Responsibilities
The inpatient respiratory service operates across two designated wards, featuring a 12-bedded Acute Respiratory Care Unit that provides level 2 non-invasive ventilation support.
You will gain extensive clinical exposure in both general and respiratory medicine, with opportunities to refine your skills in bedside procedures, including achieving competency in thoracic ultrasound.
The patient demographic includes both respiratory and general medical cases, supported by a stable team of junior doctors ensuring safe and effective patient care under consultant supervision.
Regular outpatient clinics are conducted to manage various pulmonary conditions, ensuring effective communication with patients' general practitioners through detailed clinic correspondence.

Job Responsibilities
You will oversee inpatient care on the respiratory wards, working closely with a designated consultant and taking responsibility for daily patient management. This includes conducting ward rounds, maintaining accurate patient records, prescribing safely, and managing relevant investigations.
Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings is essential for planning safe patient discharges and facilitating electronic notifications to general practitioners, ensuring comprehensive follow-up care is arranged when necessary.
