Position Overview
We invite applications for the role of Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to become a part of our dedicated team of medical professionals. This position is integral to our commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services.
Our department is known for its collaborative and dynamic environment, providing a wide array of inpatient and outpatient services tailored to meet the needs of our community. We are looking for a motivated and skilled consultant who is passionate about patient care, eager to mentor junior staff, and adaptable within a team setting.
While prior experience in Respiratory Medicine is advantageous, it is not mandatory, as comprehensive training will be offered. Candidates should possess substantial experience in acute medical specialties and ideally hold an MRCP or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
This role presents an opportunity to engage in sub-specialty training, including areas such as non-invasive ventilation, sleep medicine, tuberculosis, asthma management, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung oncology, pleural conditions, and cardiopulmonary physiology.
Key Responsibilities
The inpatient respiratory service operates across two specialized wards, including a 12-bed Acute Respiratory Care Unit, where advanced non-invasive ventilation is administered.
You will gain extensive clinical exposure and hands-on experience in both general and respiratory medicine, with opportunities to develop skills in bedside procedures, including achieving competency in thoracic ultrasound.
The patient demographic includes both respiratory and general medical cases, supported by a stable team of junior doctors who ensure safe and effective patient care under the guidance of senior consultants.
You will also participate in bi-weekly outpatient clinics to address various pulmonary conditions and collaborate with patients' general practitioners to create comprehensive care plans.

Job Duties
As a consultant, you will oversee inpatient care on the respiratory wards, working closely with a designated consultant. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting daily ward rounds to assess patient progress and maintain accurate medical records.
- Prescribing safely and effectively, while ordering and interpreting relevant diagnostic tests.
- Performing essential bedside procedures, such as pleural interventions, to facilitate timely patient care.
- Engaging in multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure safe patient discharges and coordinating follow-up care with general practitioners.
