Role Overview:

The Lead Structural Integrity Engineer will act as the principal technical authority for all structural evaluations of products at the Wolverhampton facility. This position will also provide expert direction to the wider stress engineering community across various Actuation Systems engineering locations, including those in the UK, France, Italy, the US, Poland, and India. The Lead Structural Integrity Engineer will oversee stress analysis and guide decision-making for both new product designs and ongoing production support.

A vital component of this role is the ability to utilize simulation outcomes in conjunction with informed engineering judgments to facilitate sound engineering decisions. The Lead Structural Integrity Engineer will significantly contribute to the business by addressing production challenges, aiding in new product development, and influencing the future product portfolio strategy.

Daily Responsibilities:

Direct and manage all stress-related tasks regarding the evaluation of structural integrity and safety of aerospace systems, including thorough stress analyses such as static, fatigue, damage tolerance, and dynamic assessments. Work collaboratively with design, systems, and manufacturing teams to ensure the effective integration of stress analysis throughout the product development lifecycle—from initial design through production and aftermarket support. Act as the designated authority for stress signatures at the site, responsible for reviewing and approving engineering documentation, drawings, change proposals, customer deliverables, and concessions. Conduct skills assessments within the stress team and lead strategic development initiatives, including managing procedures and standard work practices to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with industry standards.

Problem-Solving: Demonstrated capability to resolve complex structural analysis challenges and make informed, impactful decisions under pressure. Leadership: Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to facilitate technical discussions, provide clear guidance on intricate interdisciplinary issues, and motivate the stress team.

Desirable Skills:

Educational Background: Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. Experience: Over 15 years in stress-related positions. Customer Engagement: Experience in customer interactions, leading functional discussions, and overseeing deliverables approval. Adaptability: Highly self-motivated, capable of working independently, remaining composed under pressure, and swiftly adapting to evolving business needs. Communication: Excellent communication skills, able to effectively relay information to diverse audiences. Integrity: Maintains the highest level of personal integrity. Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of classical analysis methods, including mechanical components, classical stress methodologies, strength of materials, static and fatigue strength calculations. Proficiency with software tools such as Abaqus, MathCAD, and Catia (experience with gears is advantageous). Comprehensive understanding of structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA), including linear, contact, dynamic analysis, vibration analysis, and non-linear materials/plasticity analysis.
