Position Overview

The individual in this role will provide essential support to the Nursing Team, working closely with the Practice Nurses. It is expected that the individual will uphold and advocate for the core values and vision of the Practice.

The Patient Care Support Specialist will primarily focus on delivering a phlebotomy service, managing laboratory samples for patients, conducting components of new patient assessments, performing urinalysis, recording ECGs, assisting patients, cleaning and sterilizing medical instruments, maintaining equipment, and managing inventory for GPs and Nurses treatment areas.

Additionally, the Specialist will be responsible for accurately documenting patient interactions within the information systems utilized in General Practice, ensuring that appropriate records are maintained to support continuity and quality of care.

The Specialist will commit to ongoing skill development and training as necessary to maintain personal competency.

Participation in all activities required for compliance with regulatory standards is also a key responsibility.

The Specialist should be adaptable regarding work schedules and patterns across all locations associated with the Practice.

Key Responsibilities

The individual will assist with various nursing tasks under the guidance of the Practice Nursing Team, including:

  • Conducting urine tests, measuring weight and height, and taking blood pressure readings.
  • Performing ECG recordings and providing flu vaccinations (following appropriate training).
  • Managing and processing laboratory samples as requested by GPs and Practice Nurses, ensuring proper labeling and timely submission to the laboratory, while entering data into patient records.
  • Acting as a chaperone for GPs and Practice Nurses as needed.
  • Ensuring the safe disposal of clinical waste and the timely replacement of sharps containers in accordance with practice policies.
