We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Catering Supervisor to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing meal service to patients, staff, and visitors. Attention to detail and excellent customer care skills are essential to maintain high-quality standards of care.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Organize and manage the kitchen and associated areas to ensure efficient food production and service.
  • Allocate tasks and supervise catering assistants to ensure timely completion of duties.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety legislation and local codes of practice to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Assist in menu planning and recipe development to meet the dietary needs of patients and staff.
  • Manage relevant paperwork and administrative tasks to support the trust's business operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

Qualifications:

  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent level.
  • CIEHO Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • 706/1/2 City & Guilds or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Quality monitoring of food production to ensure high standards are maintained.
  • Substantial experience in large-scale catering operations, including menu planning and food safety management.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to manage a team and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to use a variety of large-scale equipment and technology to support food production and service.
  • Work well under pressure and meet deadlines to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Customer care skills to effectively communicate with patients and service users.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of key temperature controls and food safety protocols to maintain a safe environment.
  • Knowledge of cook-chill processes and food handling procedures.
  • Awareness of the importance of supervision and leadership in a team environment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the trust.
  • Provide cover for colleagues as needed to ensure continuity of service.
  • Travel independently between sites to support the trust's operations.
  • Fluent in English with proper grammar and vocabulary to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
