Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Catering Supervisor to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Catering Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality food services to our patients, staff, and visitors.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supervise the production and service of meals, ensuring compliance with food safety legislation and protocols.
  • Manage paperwork and documents associated with food service delivery, including monitoring forms and audit reports.
  • Support and assist the Assistant Catering Manager in planning menus, recipes, and food safety protocols.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety legislation and local codes of practice, including temperature controls and cook-chill procedures.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of special dietary requirements, including therapeutic and cultural diets.
  • Attend relevant meetings and contribute to the development of food service policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • GCSE or equivalent level of education.
  • CIEHO Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent.
  • 706/1/2 City & Guilds or equivalent.

Desirable Criteria

  • CIEHO Advanced Food Hygiene.
  • IOSH certification.
  • Supervisory qualification.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Quality monitoring of food production.
  • Substantial experience in large-scale catering operations.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience with cook-chill systems.
  • Previous experience as a supervisor, including acting up roles.

Skills

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to use large-scale equipment.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and packages.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Customer care skills with the ability to communicate with a range of people.

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledge of key temperature controls and food safety.
  • Knowledge of cook-chill procedures.
  • Understanding of the importance of supervision.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of audit procedures.
  • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures.

Additional

  • Ability to work unsociable hours.
  • Flexibility to provide cover for colleagues.
  • Ability to travel independently between sites.
  • Proficiency in English language, with the ability to communicate effectively and accurately.
