Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Community Shop Manager to lead our retail operations and drive business growth at Spitalfields Crypt Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing our charity shop, leading a team of staff and volunteers, and developing strategies to maximize sales and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the charity shop, ensuring a safe and profitable environment for customers and staff.
  • Lead a team of staff and volunteers, providing guidance, training, and support to achieve exceptional customer service and sales targets.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize sales, engagement, and impact, including merchandising, stock management, and community outreach.
  • Collaborate with the Community Recovery Team to provide a safe and supportive space for the local community, promoting opportunities for those vulnerable to addiction and/or homelessness.
  • Develop and maintain effective retail processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Manage shop administration, including finance, Gift Aid, and stock management.
  • Represent the organization at external meetings and events, promoting the mission and values of Spitalfields Crypt Trust.

Requirements

  • Commercial retail management experience, with a proven track record of success in leading teams and driving business growth.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and occasional work in other locations.
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office and email.
  • Visual merchandising and window dressing skills.
  • Experience of working with donated goods and charity shop operations.

Person Specification

  • Skills and Knowledge: Retail background, people management skills, good verbal and written communication skills, ability to work well as part of a team, good IT skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience: Commercial retail management experience, experience of recruiting and managing volunteers, demonstrable and proven communication skills, demonstrable experience of consistently meeting or exceeding targets, experience of leading successful teams, experience of working with donated goods, and charity shop background.
