About the Role

Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to lead our charity development efforts. As the Head of Charity Development, you will be responsible for shaping and implementing our charity strategy, driving fundraising initiatives, and building strong relationships with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive charity strategy, aligning with the Trust's goals and objectives
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including corporate, trusts, and foundation fundraising, as well as community and legacy fundraising
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, sponsors, and partners
  • Design and implement capital and revenue appeals, working closely with appointed consultants
  • Ensure all fundraising activities are conducted in compliance with charity law, fundraising legislation, and best practice
  • Review and maintain fundraising policies and protocols, ensuring alignment with the Trust's internal and external auditors, charity law, and the Institute of Fundraising's Code of Conduct
  • Act as the key point of contact for NHS charities, maintaining accurate contact details and ongoing membership
  • Develop and maintain relationships with charity leads in neighboring trusts and other NHS organizations
  • Establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships with all stakeholder groups, internally and externally, at all levels
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the Trust Charity annual grant application program, ensuring an equitable and transparent process
  • Assemble and publish an annual impact report, noting funds dispersed and the impacts upon users, including health economic indicators
  • Oversee the publication of monthly management accounts and quarterly financial reports to the Charitable Appeal Committee
  • Participate as a member of the Charitable Funds Committee, preparing reports and briefings
  • Advise the Charitable Funds Committee on all matters pertaining to fundraising activities, fundraising schedules, and budgets

Person Specification

  • Education to degree level in a relevant field, such as fundraising, public relations, sales, or management
  • Masters degree or equivalent specialist experience in fundraising, Institute of Fundraising Management qualification, or equivalent
  • Leadership development or management qualification or evidence of training
  • Substantial evidenced experience of fundraising and business development strategy and practice within a public-facing third sector/NHS setting at Assistant/Associate Director level or equivalent
  • Experience of working across a range of sectors, including private, public, academic, health, and/or charity
  • Experience of community fundraising, corporate and trusts fundraising, legacy marketing, and event management
  • Experience of setting fundraising strategy and meeting ambitious financial targets
  • Highly numerate with excellent analysis skills, able to scrutinize, analyze, and interpret financial data
  • Ability to turn strategy into realistic operational plans with targets
  • Ability to respond creatively and flexibly to fundraising opportunities while keeping sight of the longer-term aims
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • High-level IT skills in Microsoft programs and various publishing software
