NHS Scotland is dedicated to promoting equality and diversity within our workforce while eradicating unlawful discrimination. Our goal is to ensure that our workforce is genuinely representative, allowing every employee to feel valued and perform at their best. Consequently, NHS Scotland encourages applications from all segments of society.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran is making significant investments in our Acute Medicine services, creating opportunities for exceptional consultants to join our distinguished Acute Medicine team and contribute to our long-term vision for Acute Medicine services, which is integral to the Board's ambitious strategic plan.

As a values-driven organization, NHS Ayrshire and Arran emphasizes quality, culture, and values, fostering a cohesive identity with well-established integrated working across the health and care system, setting a national standard. Our workforce is highly engaged, skilled, knowledgeable, and committed, and through our strategic vision, we aim to reform our health and care system to deliver excellence and improvement to the community.

The journey of our Acute Medicine team began with a comprehensive redesign of the patient experience, aligning with the Society of Acute Medicine standards. To facilitate these enhancements, Combined Assessment Units were established, incorporating Ambulatory Care services that further improved care quality. Evidence indicates significant progress in reducing time to consultant assessment, establishing our service as one of the best nationally, with a robust training profile and increasing numbers of trainees.

The Acute Medicine team leads the Medical High Dependency unit, collaborating closely with Intensive Care colleagues, significantly enhancing critical care services and expanding training opportunities.

As we expand our Acute team, we aim to further develop and support our Acute Medicine services across the region, working towards a unified service model. This presents opportunities to redesign an exceptional service for our community.

Ayrshire and Arran not only offers a chance to work in an outstanding unit but also provides a lifestyle that can be rural, coastal, or urban. Our proximity to major cities, along with our beautiful surroundings, offers a diverse range of activities and lifestyle choices. The stunning local areas provide breathtaking views, and we are committed to supporting our staff in achieving a healthy work-life balance, as evidenced by our recent investments in Wellbeing services.

Successful candidates with dual CCT in Acute Medicine and another specialty, or those with a special interest in areas such as Endoscopy or Education, will receive support to advance their interests while delivering patient care.

The Board is committed to building the best medical workforce, which will, in turn, support an exceptional training environment. Successful candidates will be provided with the necessary time, support, and development to thrive and achieve their professional and personal goals. Opportunities for a new consultant pathway and mentorship are available, alongside flexible working arrangements that enhance work-life balance. Additionally, we have established a valued Consultant Peer Support service and are investing in our Clinical Development Fellow workforce to transform our services and training.

We are enthusiastic about this opportunity and encourage interested candidates to reach out for further discussions.
