Infection Consultant

We are looking for medical infection specialist consultants to fill vacancies in our microbiology service based at University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock. Successful applicants will work alongside a friendly and supportive team of three microbiology consultants to deliver the clinical microbiology service and develop a combined infection service. We are committed the development and work/life balance of our team and are supportive of less than full time working.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran has a mixed urban, rural and island population of 367,000, with around 1000 acute beds. As a ‘medium-sized’ board we are large enough to have considerable variety in our clinical work but small enough to build relationships between departments and with senior management. Rich history and beautiful coastlines make Ayrshire an attractive place to work and it is only a short commute from Glasgow.

Our laboratory is UKAS accredited in accordance with ISO15189:2022 standards, and carries out 245,000 bacteriology, virology and mycology investigations per year. We are a clinically-oriented department, but successful applicants will be expected to have some diagnostic and infection prevention roles. The terms and conditions of service are those determined by the new consultant contract (Scotland) 2004. The on call frequency is currently 1:4, with overnight call restrictions.

Appropriately experienced applicants will hold full GMC registration with a current licence to practice, and must be on the specialist register or be within six months of the anticipated award of CCT or CESR at the date of interview. You must also possess FRCPath or equivalent, and have training and broad experience in medical microbiology, including virology and infection control.
