Acute Medicine Consultant

Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

NHS Scotland is dedicated to promoting equality and diversity within our workforce, striving to eliminate any form of unlawful discrimination. Our goal is to ensure that our workforce is truly representative and that every employee feels valued and empowered to perform at their best.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran is making significant investments in our Acute Medicine services, creating opportunities for exceptional consultants to become part of our esteemed Acute Medicine team. This is a chance to influence our ten-year vision for Acute Medicine services, which is integral to the Board's ambitious strategic plan.

As a forward-thinking organization, NHS Ayrshire and Arran embodies a strong set of values and a commitment to quality, culture, and integrated working across the health and care system. We aim to lead nationally with a highly engaged and skilled workforce, dedicated to delivering excellence and continuous improvement in health and care.

Our journey in Acute Medicine began with a comprehensive redesign of the patient experience, aligning with the standards set by the Society of Acute Medicine. We have established Combined Assessment Units that incorporate Ambulatory Care services, significantly enhancing the quality of care provided. Our progress is evidenced by improved times for consultant assessments, positioning our service among the best nationally, with a robust training profile and increasing numbers of trainees.

The Acute Medicine team plays a pivotal role in leading Medical High Dependency services, collaborating closely with Intensive Care colleagues to enhance critical care provision for our patients while expanding training opportunities.

As we expand our Acute team, we are focused on further developing our Acute Medicine services across the region, aiming for a unified service model that benefits both our staff and the community.

Ayrshire and Arran offers not only a chance to work in a top-tier unit but also a lifestyle that can be rural, coastal, or urban. Our proximity to vibrant urban centers, alongside beautiful natural surroundings, provides a wide array of activities and lifestyle choices. The picturesque Isle of Arran, often referred to as 'Scotland in Miniature,' offers stunning views and is a popular destination for team-building activities.

Successful candidates with dual CCT in Acute Medicine and another specialty, or those with a special interest in areas such as Endoscopy or Education, will receive support to advance their interests while delivering patient care.

The Board is committed to cultivating the best medical workforce, which in turn fosters an exceptional training environment. Successful candidates will be afforded the necessary time, support, and development to achieve their professional and personal goals. Opportunities to access a newly piloted consultant pathway and mentorship will be available, alongside flexible working arrangements that enhance work-life balance.

We are enthusiastic about this opportunity and welcome discussions with interested candidates to explore this role further.
