Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Coordinator to enhance our Integrated Wheelchair Service. This pivotal role offers the chance to deliver exceptional clinical guidance to our team, oversee clinical operational effectiveness, and collaborate with the management team to prioritize ongoing quality enhancement. You will be mentoring a skilled group of local clinical professionals, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation assistants, rehabilitation engineers, and technicians. Close collaboration with the clinical director and other clinical leads/managers from our network of wheelchair services is essential. We have established robust professional excellence sharing networks throughout the organization, supported by a comprehensive quality assurance framework. You will advocate for the service and the organization’s mission through relevant national bodies and professional associations. This position allows you to focus on your vision and leadership to elevate the quality of service user outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and uphold the clinical foundation of the service within our clinical governance framework, including the application of clinical policies and procedures, particularly in clinical supervision, caseload management, and clinical audits.
  • Manage, mentor, and lead staff on a daily basis.
  • Empower the team to achieve measurable results, ensuring accountability for actions and problem resolution while promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ensure clinical competency and uphold high standards of clinical practice in accordance with local, national, and regulatory policies.
  • Spearhead the clinical development of the service in alignment with national guidelines and advancements in the evidence base.
  • Collaborate closely with the service management team to meet key performance indicators.
  • Lead by example, utilizing advanced clinical reasoning to fit and adjust equipment to meet service user needs, providing detailed instructions on safe usage and maintenance.
  • Manage your own clinical caseload while planning the overall work schedule for the clinical team in conjunction with customer services.
  • Conduct holistic assessments for all service users, identifying their abilities, limitations, and needs regarding physical, sensory, cognitive, perceptual, and social functioning, and determining the necessity for referrals to other services.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc or diploma in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or engineering.
  • HCPC/AHCS/RCT registration.
  • Postgraduate training to M-level in managing patients with complex conditions, or a commitment to pursue studies at this level.
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification.
  • Membership in relevant special interest groups.

Essential Experience

  • Postgraduate experience relevant to the wheelchair service.
  • Proficiency in writing and managing prescriptions for a diverse range of wheelchairs and seating across various clinical presentations for both adults and children.
  • Experience in managing personal caseloads and those of others.
  • Supervising a variety of clinical staff at different competency levels.
  • Collaborating with a range of health and social care services.
  • Reporting clinical incidents and managing clinical risks.

  • In-depth understanding of 24-hour postural management and its implications for wheelchair and seating provision.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pressure ulcer prevention and management.
  • Strong grasp of clinical governance principles.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation pertaining to current practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Capability to motivate a team and guide them through periods of change.
  • Valid UK driving license.
