Nurse for Pre-Operative Assessment | Bank Position | Southend

Our facility features 3 operating theatres (2 with laminar flow) and an endoscopy unit, along with a 33-bed Surgical Ward that caters to a diverse range of specialties such as Orthopaedics, Bariatrics, General Surgery, Vascular, Plastics, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Spinal, Urology, and ENT. Recent upgrades to our theatres have introduced state-of-the-art technology, enhancing our surgical environment.

Key Responsibilities

This position plays a crucial role in patient safety within Spire Healthcare. The successful candidate will be part of the Pre-operative Assessment (POA) service, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective pre-operative care. Reporting directly to the POA Lead Nurse, the role involves conducting thorough assessments of patients via telephone. The ability to work independently while being a collaborative team member is essential. Candidates must be adept at identifying complex health issues and medications that could pose surgical risks, with the responsibility to escalate any concerns to the anaesthetist and surgeons.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Current NMC registration without restrictions
  • Proven experience working with minimal supervision
  • Strong team collaboration skills
  • Surgical experience is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly for telephone assessments
