Position Overview
We are seeking a Human Resources Consultant to join our dedicated People Operations team at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. The ideal candidate will possess a Level 5 Diploma in Human Resources Management and have substantial experience in the HR field.
This pivotal role within the People Directorate offers comprehensive, empathetic, and professional HR assistance to both clinical and non-clinical departments. You will collaborate with a dynamic team focused on enhancing the work environment for those who provide care to our patients.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include delivering expert advice and guidance in accordance with relevant legislation, organizational policies, and employment terms on various matters, such as managing sickness absence, disciplinary actions, performance issues, and conflict resolution.
As a divisional HR Consultant, you will mentor managers through formal processes related to sickness, conflict resolution, conduct, and capability. You will assist clinical teams in understanding personnel issues within their divisions by generating reports utilizing data from Trust systems. Close collaboration with the People Business Partner will be essential to identify and analyze people trends within the division.
The successful candidate will be people-oriented, possess strong analytical skills, and demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will effectively manage your own workload, applying compassion, tact, and diplomacy in challenging situations while knowing when to escalate matters beyond your expertise. Proficiency in ICT is required, including the ability to use Microsoft Office and specialized systems.
HR Consultants operate autonomously and are expected to manage their own caseload effectively.

Qualifications
Essential:
- CIPD Level 5 Diploma in HR Management or an equivalent CIPD accredited qualification
- Associate Membership of the CIPD
Desirable:
- Training in Agenda for Change Job Evaluation
Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience in addressing a variety of personnel issues within a unionized setting
- Experience in conducting investigations, managing grievances, and handling sickness-related casework
- Proficient in effective case management
- Experience in contributing to the formulation of policies and procedures
- Ability to analyze HR data (both quantitative and qualitative) and produce reports based on management information
Desirable:
- Experience in the healthcare sector
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Essential:
- Understanding of Employment Law and its application in the workplace
- Ability to navigate challenging situations with tact and diplomacy
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and the capacity to build positive working relationships
- Ability to gather, organize, and analyze information to facilitate informed decision-making
- Competent in using Microsoft Office applications
Desirable:
- Familiarity with ESR or similar electronic records systems
