Breakthrough Scholarship for Memoir and Narrative Non-Fiction Writers

Curtis Brown Creative is pleased to offer a Breakthrough Scholarship for Memoir and Narrative Non-Fiction Writers, part of our Breakthrough Writers' Programme. This initiative aims to break down barriers to entry for under-represented writers and promote diversity in our student groups.
Eligibility CriteriaTo be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be over the age of 18
- Have an annual (gross, pre-tax) income of less than £25,000 (for unmarried individuals) or a total annual (gross pre-tax) household income of less than £35,000 (for married or co-habiting individuals)
- Have personal savings of less than £5,000 (individually or jointly)
Applicants who do not meet these financial criteria but are financially challenged are still encouraged to apply, providing a statement about their circumstances in the application form.
Application RequirementsTo apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit:
- A statement about their financial circumstances and the reason they deserve the scholarship
- The first 3,000 words of their memoir or narrative non-fiction book, along with a synopsis of no more than a page
The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant whose submission material shows the greatest potential and promise in our view. The decision will be made by the Curtis Brown Creative team.
Terms and ConditionsApplicants must not be currently represented by a literary agent. The scholarship is open only to those who do not have the means to attend the applicable course without financial assistance. Applicants should bear in mind that their application will be considered only for the scholarship place on the relevant course and not for other fee-paying places on the course.
