Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist with experience in inpatient settings to become a vital member of the multidisciplinary team on our specialized ward. The medical team will consist of two employed consultants and three specialty doctors, working alongside established professionals in the field. This is a part-time role, requiring a commitment of three days per week. Candidates must possess Section 12(2) approval, Approved Clinician status, and CCT accreditation in CAMHS Psychiatry or be within six months of obtaining it, along with relevant experience in CAMHS eating disorders psychiatry.

Clinical Duties

Your Role:

  • Lead the multidisciplinary team in conducting screening assessments for patient admissions.
  • Oversee the care and treatment of patients, including conducting weekly ward rounds, risk assessments, and developing ongoing treatment plans.
  • Participate in family meetings, case reviews, and discharge planning as necessary.
  • Ensure that clinical documentation is thorough and current.
  • Implement evidence-based care in accordance with national standards and guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to specialty doctors.
  • Prepare for and engage in external reviews.
  • Participate in the on-call rota (second on-call – 1 in 3).
Management Responsibilities
  • Attend the hospital-wide Clinical Governance Group meetings (monthly).
  • Contribute to the group-wide Mental Health Clinical Governance Group (quarterly).
  • Engage in service development through research, innovation, and local audits.
  • Maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, particularly NHS partners.
  • Supervise and support the site-based specialty doctor.
  • Participate in National Networks.
  • Commit to ongoing personal development through CPD and annual appraisals, adhering to the GMC's "Good Medical Practice" guidelines.
  • Regularly review prescribing practices in collaboration with the site-based pharmacist.
Qualifications and Skills
  • CAMHS CCT or CESR (Required) or evidence of imminent completion.
  • Approved Clinician and Section 12 Approved (Required).
  • Experience working in an inpatient CAMHS Eating Disorders environment.
  • Proficiency in evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Focus on patient-centered, outcomes-based care.
  • Availability for 22.5 hours per week (three days).
  • Support from full-time junior doctors.
  • Involvement in site-based clinical governance and Medical Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Opportunity to enhance leadership skills through participation in group-wide committee meetings.
  • Engagement in second-tier Consultant on-call rota.
