Our male acute inpatient wards are committed to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care. Located within the Radbourne Unit, which features both male and female acute wards, we are excited to announce the upcoming transition to a state-of-the-art facility at the Kingsway Site, ensuring all patients enjoy private en suite accommodations.

We are devoted to maintaining the highest standards of care through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach. Our team includes a Consultant Psychiatrist, Specialist Medic, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Clinical Matron, Clinical Leads, Occupational Therapists, Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and an Operational Support Lead, all supported by our Ward Clerk.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead with empathy and foster a culture of shared leadership within the team and the broader Unit.

- Oversee the operational management of the Ward.

- Provide robust clinical leadership, ensuring that evidence-based practices are implemented to enhance service quality and efficiency.

- Monitor and uphold care standards to guarantee safe, high-quality practices around the clock.

- Embody the Trust Values, promoting a positive image to service users, caregivers, and the community, while serving as a role model for the nursing team.

- Offer guidance, resources, and support to our multidisciplinary team.

- Encourage and facilitate staff development.

- Assume responsibility for clinical governance aspects within the designated ward or team.

- Ensure compliance and assurance regarding the safe and effective use of resources, prioritizing the safety of both staff and patients.

Job Responsibilities

- Provide clear leadership and direction by being approachable and visible to staff, patients, caregivers, and the public.

- Collaborate with the Area Service Manager, Head of Nursing, and Senior Multidisciplinary Team to cultivate a vision that promotes a positive, high-performing, and supportive culture.

- Ensure all staff members understand the objectives and priorities of the ward and how they align with the broader Service and Trust goals.

- Foster strong relationships and communication with other departments within the Trust, encouraging active involvement in service delivery decisions.

- Engage with external stakeholders, including commissioners and other agencies, as necessary.

- Demonstrate operational management capabilities, implementing change management and service development initiatives.

- Participate in investigations, serving as the Investigation Officer and making recommendations to influence policy and procedural changes.

- Contribute to steering groups focused on clinical and operational policy development.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Current registration with a professional body (NMC / HCPC / Social Work England)
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) / Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) / relevant qualifications in Occupational Therapy or Social Work with experience in severe mental health.
  • Evidence of post-qualification professional training or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant mentor qualification.
  • Clinical supervision training.
  • Training in complaints and investigations.

Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience in managing personnel and services.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Clinical Governance principles.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues in clinical practice.
  • Experience in monitoring service quality.
  • Effective risk management experience.
  • Experience in implementing service improvement initiatives.
  • Expertise in Care Programme Approach (CPA) and risk assessment.
