Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Play Specialist to join our team at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, holistic play services to children and their families in our Paediatric Ward and designated Paediatric ED.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing play programmes that enable children and young people to understand, accept, and coordinate with treatment.
  • Providing individualized play services to children and their families, taking into account their unique needs and preferences.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless integration of play services into patient care.
  • Conducting assessments and evaluations to identify children's play needs and develop targeted interventions.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and develop strategies for improving play services.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working as a hospital play specialist or in a similar role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, young people, and healthcare professionals.
  • A strong understanding of children's safeguarding procedures and the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
  • A relevant qualification in hospital play specialism, such as a BTEC Certificate or Foundation Degree in Health Care Play Specialism.
  • Registration with the Society of Play Therapists (SOHPs).
