Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated General Consultant Anaesthetist to become a vital member of our esteemed team at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will share clinical duties within the Anaesthesia Department.

Responsibilities will include administering anaesthesia for adult patients across various specialties, tailored to the individual's training and expertise, which may encompass peri-operative evaluations.

Participation in the Generalist Anaesthesia On Call Roster is a regular expectation.

All consultants, including the appointee, are expected to engage actively in the Trust's Clinical Governance initiatives. This encompasses involvement in clinical audits, quality assurance, adherence to clinical guidelines, professional development, performance reviews, and risk management.

The appointee will join the Consultant Staff Committee and will be expected to contribute to its functions.

Full GMC registration with a license to practice is mandatory upon application.

Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCA or equivalent qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthesia (or within six months of CCT).

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications such as MD, PhD, or equivalent (PGCert, PGDip, MSc).
  • Instructor qualifications in ALS/EPLS/ATLS or equivalent.

Aptitudes

Essential

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Passion for service enhancement and education.
  • Willingness to work in shared office environments.

Experience

Essential

  • International candidates must demonstrate equivalence to the five-year training period required in the NHS for this specialty.

Desirable

  • Post-CCT experience in Anaesthesia for Major General Surgery.

Interests

  • Commitment to developing a relevant specialist interest.
  • Demonstrated interest in education and training.
  • Engagement in research and audit activities.

Desirable

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • PGCert in Medical Education or equivalent.
  • Current GCP training.

Working Conditions

Essential

  • Flexible approach to working hours.
  • Must reside within a 15-mile radius of the Trust or within 30 minutes of travel time.
  • Possession of a full driving license.
  • Full registration with GMC, including a license to practice.
