We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a Clinical Research Nurse specializing in Haematology.

This position is part of a well-established team comprising nurses, data specialists, and healthcare assistants.

Your primary responsibilities will include enrolling patients in clinical trials and guiding them throughout their research experience.

Research plays a crucial role in prioritizing patient care.

In the past year, our team has successfully enrolled over 2000 patients in various clinical studies, ensuring that our institution provides cutting-edge treatments and empowers our patients. This nursing position not only enhances the care of local individuals but also contributes to elevating the standard of care across the entire healthcare system.

Work Schedule

The standard working hours for this role are:

  • Monday to Friday, with no weekend or night shifts.
  • There is flexibility regarding working hours, provided they align with service requirements.

This role combines patient interaction and collaboration with clinical teams, along with some administrative responsibilities.

Main Responsibilities

This role also involves advocating for Cure Leukaemia to the public and maintaining strong connections with trial nurses in Birmingham.

Risk Assessment:

This position may involve manual handling, exposure to bodily fluids, and high noise levels. It may also require managing challenging behaviors. The role necessitates standard computer use, prolonged sitting, and travel between various sites.

Job Purpose:

We are dedicated to supporting research that is relevant and accessible to our patients through our Trust's research strategy. Clinical research allows us to evaluate the effectiveness of new medications, diagnostics, and treatment protocols, contributing to the evidence base for improved patient care.

This position will be based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, with some cross-site responsibilities. You will facilitate local participation in clinical trials, managing care pathways for patients and caregivers involved in haematology research. This includes assessing study feasibility, coordinating pre-trial activities, recruiting participants, educating and monitoring research patients, and ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.

Key Duties:

Clinical - Research:

  • Support consultant medical staff and the research team with ongoing projects.
  • Ensure informed consent is obtained in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Provide patients and families with comprehensive information regarding their care and disease.
  • Evaluate patient eligibility for clinical trials and coordinate necessary pre-study tests.
  • Identify recruitment barriers and collaborate with the research team to develop solutions.
  • Organize relevant investigations for research studies.
  • Monitor and report any adverse events as part of the risk management process.
  • Ensure proper randomization and treatment allocation per trial protocols.
  • Collect and manage samples required for clinical trials.
  • Administer trial medications as needed and report any unusual side effects.
  • Provide continuous care for patients and their caregivers throughout the trial.
  • Review patients independently and with supervision to adjust care management as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Research Nurse Team to deliver an expert service for clinical trial patients.
  • Maintain accurate data entry on case report forms and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Communicate regularly with study sponsors regarding research progress.
  • Adhere to ICH-GCP principles and act as a role model for research excellence.

Education/Research:

  • Participate in local academic seminars and staff meetings.
  • Instruct patients and caregivers on specialized procedures related to research participation.
  • Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
  • Engage in continuous professional development.
  • Comply with all relevant policies and procedures.

Clinical Governance:

  • Stay informed about current procedures and developments.
  • Ensure effective handling of complaints in line with Trust policy.
  • Adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
  • Conduct research in a compliant environment.
  • Protect patient data in accordance with regulations.

  • Meet revalidation requirements through ongoing education.
  • Conduct research in compliance with ICH-GCP and Research Governance standards.
