  • Advocating for and supporting oncology patients participating in clinical studies.

Job Responsibilities

This position involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including:

  • Ward/Department staff, Principal Investigators, patients and their families, and other departments within the Trust.
  • Pharmacy, Pathology, Radiology, and the Research & Development Directorate Team.
  • Clinical Trials Units, Academic Sponsors, and Clinical Research Organizations.

Role Purpose

We are dedicated to supporting research that is relevant and accessible to our patients. Through clinical research, we can evaluate the effectiveness of new medications, diagnostics, and treatment protocols, thereby contributing to the evidence base for innovative approaches to enhance patient care.

This role is integral to the research delivery team, providing dedicated support for clinical trials to patients within our healthcare system. You will work closely with clinical colleagues to facilitate day-to-day research activities, ensuring compliance with study protocols and regulations.

The department engages in a variety of clinical studies, including groundbreaking research in oncology and haematology, as well as other recognized studies. You will have the opportunity to participate in these initiatives, maintaining direct contact with patients and their families while working across various sites.

Key Duties Include:

  • Identifying eligible patients for studies through record reviews and attending relevant clinics.
  • Interviewing, consenting, recruiting, and monitoring patients involved in clinical trials.
  • Ensuring trial-specific investigations are conducted as per research protocols.
  • Maintaining comprehensive patient records and documentation.
  • Providing continuous support and information to patients and their families regarding clinical trials.
  • Collecting and entering data for patients in both treatment and non-treatment trials.
  • Reporting clinical incidents and concerns to the appropriate management.

Professional Development

As a Clinical Research Clinical Specialist, you will be expected to pursue appropriate training to work towards Accreditation on the Clinical Research Practitioner Register.

General Duties

This position will primarily be based within our healthcare facilities, with regular travel to other sites as required. You will ensure that the perspectives of research participants are effectively gathered and addressed, and that the complaints procedure is followed in accordance with Trust policy.
