Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Specialist

StokeonTrent, Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

As a key member of our dynamic clinical pharmacy team, you will take on the role of an Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Band 7. You will collaborate with a dedicated group of professionals committed to delivering exceptional patient care and fostering professional growth.

Our Clinical Pharmacy department is composed of seasoned specialists who are passionate about mentoring junior pharmacists, helping them to enhance their clinical expertise and prepare for diverse career paths.

The Band 7 rotational program is designed to complement the junior pharmacist rotation and features a clear development pathway from Band 7 to Band 8a. We promote flexible working arrangements, including part-time options, and while prior postgraduate education is advantageous, we actively support all Band 7 pharmacists in pursuing diplomas and prescribing qualifications if they have not yet been achieved.

Key Responsibilities

We take pride in our pharmacist development initiatives, which have a strong history of transforming junior pharmacists into proficient Advanced Specialist Pharmacists (Band 8a) and other advanced roles.

Our development programs align with the national Core Advanced Pharmacist Curriculum and include rotations through various specialties such as Acute Medicine, Critical Care, Haematology/Oncology, Paediatrics, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Neurology, and Cardiothoracics. Each rotation lasts six months and encompasses both clinical and dispensary responsibilities, along with specialty projects and developmental activities.

Our pharmacy department maintains robust partnerships with Keele University Pharmacy and Medical Schools, providing opportunities for formal and informal teaching engagements with students and involvement in research initiatives.

We encourage our pharmacists to explore and cultivate their unique interests, contributing to the development of their individual career portfolios. Dedicated training time is allocated for a variety of courses, and all Band 7 rotational pharmacists have recently been supported in completing the UKCPA Critical Care module, with several also participating in the Trust's Gateway to Management and Gateway to Leadership programs.

Additional Information on the Pharmacy Department

Our Pharmacy team is youthful, diverse, and innovative, with a proven track record of enhancing services to improve patient-centered pharmaceutical care and optimize medication use within the Trust. We are on the verge of upgrading our robotic dispensing capabilities and implementing an Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) system, utilizing cutting-edge technology to enhance our operations.

Our efforts have garnered national recognition over the years. Staff are encouraged to engage in audits and practice research, as well as attend national and regional conferences to share their findings. Our on-call commitment is minimal, averaging 1 in 30 for Band 6 and 7 pharmacists. We provide extensive training, IT resources, and senior support for our on-call service. As a center of expertise, we offer ample opportunities for you to further develop and advance your pharmacy career.

We are seeking adaptable, enthusiastic, and dedicated Band 7 Pharmacists to join our team. If you are looking to be part of a supportive and progressive pharmacy department, we welcome your application.

Our team encourages every member to voice their opinions, and by working collaboratively, we ensure that we can meet the needs of both our patients and our staff.
