London, Greater London, United Kingdom UCL Eastman Dental Institute Full time
Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Research Fellow to engage in the development of pioneering algorithms and computational methodologies aimed at the classification, analysis, and characterization of protein structure data sourced from the AlphaFold Database.

Your responsibilities will encompass the application of Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning strategies for domain identification, homologue classification, and functional prediction within proprietary data processing pipelines utilizing NextFlow.

Collaboration will be a key aspect of this role, as you will work closely with esteemed professionals in the field, including Prof. David Jones and Dr. Sameer Velankar, to share domain classification insights through the PDBe Knowledge Base. Furthermore, you will have the chance to interact with other prominent research teams, such as Prof. Burkhard Rost's group and the InterPro team.

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a related discipline, complemented by robust programming skills in Python and experience in High-Performance Computing environments.

As part of a dynamic team of computational biologists, you will contribute to the creation of novel algorithms and workflows for protein classification, applying these innovations across various protein databases while supporting the overarching research initiatives of the Orengo group.

Publication of research outcomes in scientific journals and presentations at academic conferences will be expected as part of your professional contributions.

Depending on your qualifications and experience, the position will be offered at Grade 7 or 8, with potential for career progression based on your research contributions and leadership capabilities.

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, which includes a generous holiday allowance, pension scheme, cycle-to-work program, on-site fitness facilities, and enhanced parental leave policies.

This role presents an exceptional opportunity to further your career in computational biology while contributing to groundbreaking research initiatives.
