Position Overview

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and skilled Consultant in Emergency Ophthalmology. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the ongoing transformation within our ophthalmology department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality corneal services to the local population and surrounding areas.
  • Engage in comprehensive ophthalmology practices alongside fellow department members.
  • Support clinical decision-making processes for junior medical and nursing personnel.
  • Participate in educational activities, including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Oversee the development and appraisal of junior medical staff.
  • Contribute to risk management and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Respond to patient complaints and critical incidents in a professional manner.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR.
  • Evidence of fellowship training in corneal ophthalmology.
  • Clinical experience in general ophthalmology equivalent to UK CCT standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in high-volume cataract surgery with audited complication data.
  • Recent engagement with UK hospital systems and practices.
  • Proven track record in research, teaching, and training.

This position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, necessitating a Disclosure submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
