Job Summary:

The Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Ophthalmology Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients presenting to our Ophthalmology service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a General Ophthalmology service for patients alongside other members of the department.
  • Support the clinical decision-making of junior medical and nursing staff.
  • Take a full role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including clinical meetings and tutorials.
  • Act as Educational Supervisor to junior and middle-grade medical staff, responsible for their appraisal and personal development planning.
  • Be involved in risk management and quality assurance, responding appropriately to complaints and critical incidents.
  • Participate in an annual Job Planning Review process and adhere to the Trust's Adverse Clinical Incident Policy.
  • Provide medical information for the development of systems appropriate for Trust needs.
  • Participate in an inclusive approach to working with other providers of ophthalmic care within the wider NHS health community in the county.

Requirements:

  • Immediate accountability to the Corneal lead, Specialty Director, and Divisional Lead.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent clinical and teaching skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances.
