Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ophthalmology Consultant to join our team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver High-Quality Care: Share responsibility for the delivery of high-quality care to patients presenting to the Ophthalmology service.
  2. General Ophthalmology Service: Provide a General Ophthalmology service for patients alongside other members of the department.
  3. Support Junior Staff: Support the clinical decision-making of junior medical and nursing staff.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Corneal Services: Undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies.
  2. Business Planning: Maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division, and the Trust.

Teaching and Training:

  1. Training Opportunities: Provide conditions for improved training opportunities in line with national and local recommendations arising out of Modernising Medical Careers and related requirements.
  2. Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teaching: Take a full role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including clinical meetings and tutorials.
  3. Education and Development: Act as Educational Supervisor to junior and middle-grade medical staff, being responsible for their appraisal and personal development planning.
  4. Risk Management and Quality Assurance: Be involved in risk management and quality assurance.
  5. Complaints and Critical Incidents: Respond appropriately to complaints and critical incidents.
  6. Trust Procedures: Undertake all work in accordance with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust procedures and operating policies.
  7. Job Planning Review: Participate in an annual Job Planning Review process.
  8. Adverse Clinical Incident Policy: Adhere to the Trust's Adverse Clinical Incident Policy.

Management and Strategic Development:

  1. Medical Information: Provide medical information for the development of systems appropriate for Trust needs.
  2. Collaboration and Partnership: Participate in an inclusive approach to working with other providers of ophthalmic care within the wider NHS health community in the county.

Accountability:

  1. Accountability Structure: The post-holder will be immediately accountable to the Corneal lead, Specialty Director, and Divisional Lead.
