Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ophthalmology Consultant to join our team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with corneal conditions and will play a key role in the development of our ophthalmology services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Responsibilities
    • Provide a high-quality corneal service to patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of corneal conditions.
    • Work closely with other members of the ophthalmology team to ensure seamless care for patients.
    • Support the clinical decision-making of junior medical and nursing staff.
  • Teaching and Training
    • Provide teaching and training to junior medical staff and other professionals.
    • Develop and implement training programs to improve the skills and knowledge of staff.
    • Contribute to the development of educational materials and resources.
  • Research and Quality Improvement
    • Contribute to the development of research projects and studies related to ophthalmology.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient care and outcomes.
    • Collaborate with other departments and teams to share best practices and improve patient care.
Requirements
  • Full GMC registration.
  • FRCR or equivalent qualification.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP).
  • Experience of corneal ophthalmology fellowship training.
  • Clinical training and experience in general ophthalmology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT.
  • Evidence of experience with high-volume cataract surgery.
  • Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices.
  • Knowledge of political context within which we operate.
  • Evidence of recent CME activity and satisfactory career progression.
  • Completion of a management course or program.
