Radiology Education Trainees

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Whittington Hospital NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking applications for the role of Medical Education Fellow within the London School of Radiology and Whittington Health NHS Trust. This position offers two part-time appointments for individuals at ST2 level and above, aimed at enhancing educational initiatives within the London School of Radiology.

This role provides a unique opportunity for medical professionals currently engaged in London training programs to dedicate up to a year to educational projects that support training within the London School of Radiology.

We aim to appoint two medical education fellows, each working two days per week on various projects while continuing their clinical training in their respective base programs. The scheduling of these sessions will be coordinated upon appointment with the fellows and their educational supervisors, Dr. Kate Hawtin and Dr. Jane Young, both experienced Consultant Radiologists.

The position is primarily hosted by the Whittington Hospital, as one of the supervisors is a consultant there, and funding is facilitated through this channel.

Key Responsibilities

The fellows will engage in the evaluation of existing online educational projects and contribute to the development of online teaching, assessment, and training resources. Collaboration with various organizations, including the Oxford RAIQC platform, RCR, and NHSE e-learning resources, will be essential. Major projects will focus on:

  • Expanding and enhancing resources and assessments for out-of-hours work, specifically the ST1 pre-on-call assessment (SPOCA).
  • Developing teaching resources for the ST1 FRCR curriculum, creating a curated content set accessible to trainees across multiple training schemes.
  • Supporting the steering group for the RLL website and overseeing the content review process.
  • Collecting feedback on ongoing projects.
  • Identifying potential projects and educational resources related to artificial intelligence (AI) in imaging for registrars.

Work will be shared among the fellows, fostering a collaborative environment.

Individual job plans will be established, detailing two days of work, in consultation with the supervisors and the Training Programme Director of the successful candidates' training schemes.

Medical Education Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in leadership and educational events organized within NHS England during their tenure.

The fellows will report to their supervisors, Dr. Hawtin and Dr. Young, and will connect with the Head of the London School of Radiology, Dr. Samantha Chippington.

Job Responsibilities

These positions do not include clinical sessions at the Whittington Hospital. It is anticipated that the fellows will perform their duties primarily through remote work, while clinical responsibilities will continue at their respective base hospitals or training schemes.
