Main Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced part-time Renal Dietitian to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be an integral member of our multidisciplinary renal team, delivering high-quality patient-centred renal dietetic care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide expert dietetic care to renal inpatients and outpatients, including assessment, planning, and implementation of care pathways and protocols.
  2. Contribute to the development and delivery of structured education programmes for patients and healthcare professionals.
  3. Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals and gain valid informed consent, working within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  4. Manage clinical risk within your patient caseload and work within Trust clinical guidelines.
  5. Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records, adhering to British Dietetic Association and Health and Care Professions Council standards of practice.
Team Working, Decision Making, and Communication
  1. Represent the dietetic service and/or individual patients at multi-disciplinary team meetings, ensuring the delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service and integrating dietetic therapy into the treatment programme.
  2. Provide nutrition counselling to patients and carers, using a broad range of counselling techniques and experience to encourage change, particularly where there is non-compliance.
  3. Make clinical decisions in collaboration with the Nutrition Support Team about the appropriate and safe administration of parenteral nutrition or alternative forms of artificial nutrition support.
  4. Directly prescribe nutritional supplements, vitamins, and minerals as agreed with consultant medical staff.
  5. Communicate and liaise with the wider healthcare community, locally, regionally, and nationally, regarding nutrition prescription and nutritional care of patients.
Audit and Research
  1. Undertake the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of evidence-based practice projects, audit, and outcome measures.
  2. Collect data for use in service audit and research projects as directed.
Development Activities
  1. Participate in professional clinical groups, such as departmental development groups and other professional development activities.
  2. Contribute to the development, implementation, and update of operational and professional standards and policies for the specialist dietetic service.
  3. Be an active team member of the dietetic department at King's, participating in departmental developments and attending monthly staff and continuing professional development meetings.
  4. Advise and liaise with catering staff about the dietary needs of patients and assist in instructing diet kitchen chefs on preparation of special meals as required.
  5. Participate in the staff Performance Review scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with your agreed personal development programmes to meet required knowledge and competency goals.
  6. Be an active member of the in-service training programme by attendance at, and participation in, in-service training programmes, tutorials, individual training sessions, external courses, and peer review.
  7. Undertake an evidence-based project to develop improvements to service delivery and clinical practice.
